Dr. Todd Gililland is a native of Tupelo, Mississippi and a graduate of Ole Miss. His early interest in dentistry and orthodontics came while he was a student at Ole Miss. He and Dr. Bishop were introduced in the fall of 1991. Dr. Gililland was a sophomore in college and was looking for a part-time job to make ends meet. He was hired as a lab assistant, but through Dr. Bishop’s guidance and mentoring, was being taught much more about orthodontics than he could have imagined.
While working in the office, he subsequently became a patient and learned first-hand what it was like to go through the orthodontic experience. He and Dr. Bishop would often talk about the changes in modern medicine and what the future of orthodontics would be like. At that point, Dr. Gililland made his decision to go to dental school. Upon graduation from Ole Miss, he was accepted to the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry, where he would spend the next four years of his life. UAB was well known for its research and is the second highest funded school second only to Harvard. While at UAB, Dr. Gililland excelled in his academic studies, finishing in the top 10 percent of his class. Additionally, he was one of two students to be awarded multiple honors at graduation, accepting the Quintessence Publishing Award for Restorative Dentistry as well as for Excellence in Clinical Research. Dr. Gililland’s interests in research include: Sleep Apnea, TMJ and Non-Extraction Growth Modification. He has published and co-authored multiple journals in all of these areas.
Upon graduation from dental school, Dr. Gililland attended the University of Texas at San Antonio for specialty training in cosmetic and implant dentistry. The University of Texas at San Antonio has been rated the No. 1 dental school in the country, and Dr. Gililland was fortunate to be accepted to such an elite program to study latest techniques for enhancing the smile. Upon graduation in the summer of 1999, he moved back to Mississippi where he practiced general dentistry and worked with Dr. Bishop in the practice part-time, becoming familiar with the practice from the ground up. In the summer of 2000, he accepted a position at New York University to study orthodontics. While in school, he learned cutting-edge techniques in orthodontics as well as an advanced knowledge in digital videography and the future of orthodontics with computers. While in New York, he accepted the prestigious Theodore L. Jerrold Award for most exemplifying the true essence of an orthodontist voted on by all 40 faculty members as the” Resident of the Year.”
Dr. Gililland is married to his wife of eight years, Tiffany, and they have two boys named Jack and Josh. In his free time, he mostly enjoys playing golf, hunting, reading and running after recently completing the New York City Marathon. He and his family reside in Oxford and are actively involved in the community.
Dr. Gililland has grown up in this practice for the past 12 years as a patient, assistant and now as an orthodontist. He is dedicated to this practice and is committed to taking care of each patient as if they are his only one. He strongly believes that each child should be treated as if they were his own and makes his treatment decisions based on the individual and how we can best accomplish a perfect final result. He and Dr. Bishop have been friends for a long time and compliment one another’s personality and treatment styles. Working together, they are excited about taking this practice and its patients well into the 21 st century.
